  1. How To Protect Your Seagate Hard Drive From Failing

How to protect your Seagate hard drive from failing

Worried about your hard drive failing? Here is some good advice and tips on what to look out for and what not to do.

Every type of hard drive has it’s own way of telling you something isn’t working. This will always be some kind of sound, it will start a certain noise to let you know what isn’t working. A whistling noise means that your hard drive is failing and a beeping noise means that the inner elements of your driveway are failing.

The hard drives that are the toughest will twist round at thousands of revolutions per minute, the weaker these hard drives get the less it will be twisting around. If you ever have problems like stuck write/read heads it will make the capability of moving a lot worse than it was. If you are trying to power your device when you have these stuck pieces it can cause a lot of physical damage which could then cause you to not be able to recover your lost data.

When you have a hard drive try not to plug or unplug it too much as it can damage the relationship,  this could then cause you loose your data. Because the hard drive and the connections and so small you might not realise you are damaging them by barely doing anything, so you need to be extra careful with any hard drives. When you have one and it’s all set up, the best thing to do is tape the wires down to where you have placed it to make sure it doesn’t move.

Every single hard drive is made so that physical things would be able to harm them and damage things inside of them. This is why you have to be so careful with any hard drive you buy because a little bit of damage could make you lose all your data in minutes. Another thing to do is, keep them out of warm or wet weather so they will have less strain on them, if a hard drive has a lot of strain this can also cause data loss. They also get hot sometimes when they are on and actively working.

In some circumstances data that was been lost can be restored, depending on the reason it was lost. Many companies around the world have software and data recovery to help you with data loss, but not all of them have this.

  2. Hard Drive vs The Cloud.

    Hard drive vs the Cloud

Have you always wondered why people use hard drives instead of the cloud or the other way round? You can find out right here the pros and cons!

Cloud is now the go to for businesses or individuals as it can be used for many things such as; Running critical apps, data analytics, automation, IoT, app development and sorting data.

Cloud servers are virtual and aren’t just tied down to one physical machine. So if there was a hardware error, your data will be moved onto another physical machine. Where as if you have an external hard drive, everything is on there, so if that brakes or has a problem this will make it a big problem to get any data off of that drive. Data loss is also a thing of the past for people using the Cloud, but not for external drives, they could be lost easily.

External hard drives are normally not too expensive and are easy to get. They can now hold many TB’s so they can hold more Data. Cloud storage aren’t expensive either and you can pay monthly. Paying for the cloud covers; The disk space, technical support, server management and lots more. To get more storage when you have an external hard drive, you have to buy a bigger one and transfer all your files over while can be very time consuming. If you use the cloud, you can just easily pay online for more storage and you do not have to do anything else.

The Cloud is also easier to use because you can control who can access it and on what devices.

Anywhere can access what you have on your external drive if they get a hold of it, they can easily be stolen.

Portable storage now has an SSD drives which can read and write data a lot quicker than older HDD drives. To do this they will have to be plugged into another device, the speed has increased but it is still considerably slower than the capacity of the SDD inside. Whereas, the Cloud doesn’t have to be plugged in anywhere and can be used anywhere anytime. It is very quick and easy to use, you can also download and upload quicker than external hard drives.

  3. How Western Digital Helps The Environment Across The World

How Western Digital Helps the Environment Across the World.

Here we will be looking at how Western Digital helps the environment by volunteering. Groups of Western Digital employees help by volunteering in support of their philanthropic pillar to speak out to everyone about the environmental issues around the world.

A clean and healthy environment is best for everyone and it helps with healthy living. They will always, and always have tried to motivate their employees to volunteer and help out the environment. They offer all employees many opportunities to get involved and this helps employees from all over the world to make an impact on the environment together.

Western Digital are devoted to protecting our planet, one example is through their volunteering events which are held on Earth Day that takes place all around the world.

On their 2nd annual globe volunteer project where they celebrated Earth Day was huge. Over 1,500 of their employees volunteered to help out, which was over 5,000 of their time to clean up beaches, creeks, roads, marinas, and plant trees at majority of the events.

This is some volunteers planting trees in Danshui Riverside in Shanghai, China. This is the 9th year a row they have done this.

    Here are some of the highlighted events from all around the world;

    • Un-tapped Crafts and Awareness Sessions on World Water Day, India Some of their employees were volunteering and they handmade collaterals which would normally be used by girls in schools and communities They would use these for water campaigns to try and raise some awareness of them not being able to get any clean drinking water.

    • Plogging, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – The employees who volunteered to do this embraced the concept of ‘plogging’, this is picking up all the rubbish while jogging!

    • Kayak Clean-up, San Jose, USA – Other volunteers went out into the Alviso Marina with 2 people in each kayak to get out 62lbs of floating rubbish from the water.

Thanks to Western Digital employees the world has little less rubbish on it. They are always so grateful for the commitment of their employees, they don’t have to volunteer but they want to, they want to help the environment, they want to make it a cleaner place and a better place for us all to live. Volunteering means a lot to everyone, as it not only helps a few people, it helps the world.

  6. WD Purple Surveillance Hard Drives

    WD Purple Surveillance Hard Drive

In this particular blog you can read about the WD Purple Surveillance Hard Drive. This blog has all different types of features, sizes and many benefits. Here’s all the information you need to know:

WD Purple offers its customers a great AllFrame technology. Because WD Purple is equipped with AllFrame it also works with ATA to reduce any frame loss, improve your playbacks and to increase the number of drive bays that are supported. This will bring you amazing reliability and some peace of mind when you are making the installation of it into your home or in your small/medium sized business security surveillance systems.

The Firmware upgrades work with ATA streaming to reduce any error pixelation on your photos or videos. This also will reduce any of your video interruptions that may happen when a desktop hard drive is used in the wrong way in a security system. This security system is built for a 24/7, always on, high resolution surveillance security system. This is only for systems that use up to 8 hard drives and up to 32 cameras.

When you are choosing a hard drive that’s right for you, there’s a few things you need to think about first. You should always choose a hard drive that is designed and engineered for a home or business surveillance system, if that’s where you are installing the hard drive. Choosing the right one that will work properly means that you can then enjoy some peace of mind that you can only get from surveillance-class hard drives.

Desktop drives vs. surveillance class storage.

A standard desktop hard drive is engineered to read, write and transfer data. Whereas, a surveillance hard drive is engineered to perform as a security blanket for your surveillance system.

If you had to transfer loads of products across the world or country, you wouldn’t get someone in a car to do it, so why use the wrong hard drive in a surveillance system? You should never use a desktop hard drive in a surveillance system because it was not designed for that application. If you do this something could do wrong or it might not work at all.

WD Purple surveillance-class storage is always tested for compatibility in a large range of security systems. Because it

is engineered for compatibility with industry leading frames and chip set manufacturers for consistent integration into your new or existing video surveillance system. These hard drives are designed to replace the normal desktop drives that were not designed for a hard 24/7, always on, surveillance environment. Desktop drives are designed only to run short intervals and they were not engineered to deal with any high temperature variations and any equipment vibrations which are round in a typical surveillance application.

With this system, whether it's to protect a personal asset or if it’s to monitor a business you have worked very hard on. You can always rely on surveillance-class storage which has been built by one of the largest hard drive manufacturers in the entire world.  This hard drive also lowers the power consumption and then makes it flexible and easy for you to expand in the future. This hard drive is also not recommended for a NAS environment

  7. Seagates Ironwolf NAS Drives Arrive!

    Seagates Ironwolf NAS Drives Arrive!

This arrived just in time for SMBs (small and midsized businesses) planning on a data-led Covid-19 recovery.

Seagates technology is the world’s leader in storage and management solutions. It has been reported that there has been a global survey of 3,000 small or medium business decision makers. The survey has revealed that despite economic headwinds, existing SMB IT infrastructure for many SMBs show, flexibility and most of SMBs believe business data is a very important role in the long term recovery plans.

It has also been announced that there will be an update with

Ironwolf and Pro NAS drive lines, aimed at home or small office environments. They have a new 18TB size HDD and SATA SSD models. These new drives deliver a greater speed, capacity and stamina to bring reliable, accessible and stable performance with NAS solutions.

Even though working from home was an unexpected change to working normally, the SMB IT infrastructure that already existed proved their resilience, according to research. More than half of SMBs decision makers said that there was no trouble in accessing the files and company data when working from home. 61% reported similar production levels to when their employees are in the office. 45% of SMD decision-makers told us that their company’s data infrastructure was stronger than expected during the pandemic. All SMBs included in studies have fewer than 250 employees, and most of them have fewer than 50.

SMBs to adopt data-driven COVID-19 recovery strategies.

SMBs future decision makers are making their recovery plan. 36% of SMB decision makers are suspecting that their staff will work from home more often after COVID-19 is over. This makes the appreciation of how data can help businesses recover and thrive a lot bigger and it will be essential. 65% of SMBs decision makers say that their before COVID-19 recovery plan is being well educated by the data they have stored about their business. The pandemic has influenced reconsideration of the value of business data amongst SMB decision makers. 55% have said that they accept the value of their business data more than they did before the pandemic.

There’s a big variety of business data available to SMBs and decision makers, regarding some of that data as much more important to their business’ recovery strategy. Globally, SMBs decision-makers grouped data around customer purchases which was 59% and customer maintenance which is 57% as the most useful data to their business, with employee productivity measurements coming in third at 52%.

The new 18TB IronWolf Pro is especially made and improved for NAS with AgileArrayTM firmware, which is built on top of CMR technology which dispatches steady RAID performances while allowing multiple, existing users. The drive offers a big workload rate limit (WRL) of 300TB/year, allowing users to stream, backup, and access more of their NAS data. It also offers a 250 MB/s Sustained Transfer Rate (STR), making it the giant volume and fastest IronWolf drive in the pack. IronWolf Pro HDDs offer IronWolf Health Management for well suited NAS systems and a five-year warranty.

The Seagate’s new IronWolf Pro 125 and IronWolf 125 SATA SSDs are NAS drives that are made for 24/7 use and have accessible performance to meet the needs of SMBs, creative professionals, and home office users. IronWolf Pro 125 SSD is made for multi-user places and power users allowing for up to 1 DWPD (Power Loss Data Protection), a five-year warranty, and three-year Seagate Rescue Data Recovery Services. IronWolf 125 SSD gives you 0.7 DWPD and a 5-year warranty. They both offer Health Management with a well suited NAS system.

The new IronWolf 125 SSD is now available in capacities of 250GB, 500GB, 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB. The IronWolf Pro 125 is also available now in capacities of 240GB, 480GB , 960GB, 1.92TB, and 3.84TB.
